Tips for reaching out to close others
- Be concise and specific. Aim for clear communication.
- Don't apologise. Asking for help or reaching out is nothing to be ashamed of. Don't minimise what you're saying by saying "I'm sorry"... or "I hate to bring this up"...
- Make it personal, not transactional. Try to speak face-to-face.
- Follow up with results. Let the people you asked for help from know how it's going.
- Talk about it in a way that feels best for you.
- Don't worry about silences.
- Say what you need to say.
- Be truthful.
- Accept and ask for support, if needed.
- Don't be afraid to say how you feel.
